VILLAGE OF EXETER MINUTES MAY 9, 2023 The regular meeting of the Exeter Village Board was convened in open and public session on Tuesday May 9, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Exeter Village Office. Notice of the meeting was given by posting 10 days prior at the Exeter Village Office, Post Office, and Generations Bank. Chairperson Alan Michl called the meeting to order. Board members present upon roll call were: Alan Michl, Jim Anderson, Bob Mueller and Kim Gloystein. Justin Harre was absent. Clerk Becky Erdkamp recorded the minutes. Chairperson Michl noted that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is available in the Village Office for public inspection and review. Visitors present included: Sara Pella and Rhonda Stokebrand. Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved without correction. An accounts payable listing was presented for approval. Anderson moved and Gloystein seconded the motion to approve invoices as presented. All present voted aye. Discussion was held on activities that are being planned, the parade route and street closings that are requested. Barricades will be provided by the village when needed. The board thanked Sara for organizing the committees and helping to plan events. Sara Pella also discussed pool staffing for the upcoming season. Several lifeguards are involved with many camps, teams and family vacations throughout the summer. There may be days when the pool will not be able to be open due to the limited number of available guards. Six lifeguards were hired, one has taken another position, one would not be available until July only as a substitute. Several high school students have been contacted about taking the lifeguard certification course. One additional student is planning to take the course at the end of May. Bob Mueller reported a landowner north of the railroad tracks may be interested in putting a pivot on his land for wastewater distribution. Another property owner may be interested in selling property to put a new lagoon on. An estimate from Viking Industrial Painting was presented by John Mueller for painting and repairing the water tower. The estimate for painting the tower was $157,720.00. The estimate for painting and repairing the roof was $204,500.00. A representative from the company will appear at a future meeting to explain the process. One additional bid for painting the tower was $350,000.00. The Exeter Bid Specification for a new rescue unit was reviewed. Mueller moved and Gloystein seconded the motion to allow for the bid letting. All present voted aye. Notice to bid will be published for three weeks as required by law. Bids will be opened on June 1, 2023 at 6:00 pm. The board will review the bids at the June 7, 2023 meeting. Cindy Markowski is working on comments to the Public Service Commission for bringing fiber to the library and city office. John Mueller presented the Maintenance Report. They have been working on the ballfield fence and swimming pool. Water meters continue to be changed out as needed. The new meter reader program is being utilized. Becky Erdkamp presented the Clerk’s Report. There is a hearing in district court on the property at 209 East Maplewood Street. Several dog complaints have been received. Michl will talk to Tyler Salmon about the issue. Sales tax receipts for February are $11,795.92. Keno receipts for March are $297.04. Tree service providers are reminded not to dump trees and stump grinding materials in the village tree dump from trees that are cut from outside of town. The tree and grass dump are only for residents of the community. Bid Opening for the Rescue Unit is June 1, 2023 at 6:00 pm. The next Village Board meeting is June 7, 2023 at 7:00 pm.
