Two represent Friend at state track

While the results weren’t what they wanted, competing at state track was a good opportunity for Breckan Schluter and Christian Conley of Friend High.

The two ran in preliminary heats for their events and did not advance to the finals. Schluter finished the 200-meter dash in 24.12 seconds, and Conley ran the 300-meter hurdles in 45.06 seconds.

Coach Jim Pfeiffer said the state meet had been a goal for Schluter, a junior this year, since last season.

“It’s not often you’re able to set high goals and have them come true,” he said. “He tried some new events, and it worked out for him.”

Conley, a freshman, competed in one of the harder events in track, Pfeiffer swaid.

“To go as a freshman in the 300s is a big accomplishment,” he said. “Now he knows what it takes to go to state in track.”

He said he looks for Conley to run in the low 40s next season.

Pfeiffer said the experience should be motivation for both athletes.

“It was good for both, a good experience for both,” he said. “It was a good day for the Bulldogs.”
