EXETER-MILLIGAN PUBLIC SCHOOL REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING MONDAY, MARCH 18, 2024 7:00 PM Exeter Site Community Classroom President Erdkamp declared the regular meeting open at 7:00 PM. Those present were A. Erdkamp, K. Jansky, R. Johnson, P. Jurgensen, D. Kallhoff, and E. Milton as well as Superintendent Sheffield and Principal Kroll. There were sixteen (16) visitors present. The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted. Motion by Milton and 2nd by Jansky to verify that the School Board of Exeter-Milligan Public School meeting was duly advertised, and all Board members were notified as to the time and place of meeting pursuant to Board policy and practice. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by Johnson and 2nd by Jurgensen to approve the consensus agenda consisting of the Treasurer’s report, the minutes of the regular monthly meeting on February 8, 2024, the special meetings on February 27, 2024 and March 4, 2024, and the March expenditures. Motion carried 6-0. Superintendent Sheffield shared a brief synopsis of the EMF consolidation presentation from the four special meetings in February and March. No one shared during the public comment time. The EMF Reorganization Petition (consolidation) will be an action item at the April meeting. If the vote for consolidation passes, Superintendent Sheffield recommends submitting the petition to the state reorganization committee shortly after the meeting. There are a myriad of business items that need to be addressed that will need the new district number. The building and grounds committee met before the meeting to discuss options for the possible EMF elementary (grades K-5) at the Exeter site. After further discussion, it was decided the current plan developed by DLR (with input from the board) was too expensive. The committee developed an alternate plan and shared this with those present at the board meeting. Superintendent Sheffield will share this alternate plan with DLR and have a hard estimate available at the April meeting. Motion by Milton and 2nd by Kallhoff to approve the teacher contracts for Sandi Snyder and Kelly Rischling for the 2024-25 school year. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by Jansky and 2nd by Johnson to accept the resignation of Sandi Snyder at the conclusion of the 2024-25 school year. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by Kallhoff and 2nd by Milton to accept the resignations of Kara Myers and Haley Johnson at the conclusion of the 2023-24 school year. Motion carried 6-0. Motion and 2nd by the Negotiations Committee to approve Laura Kroll’s 2024-25 principal contract as presented. Motion carried 6-0. Milligan site options were discussed. Superintendent Sheffield will meet with representatives of the village of Milligan to finalize the purchase agreement and facility use agreement. Once these documents are complete, the building and grounds committee will meet. The goal is to have a written agreement for the April meeting. Information and discussion items included: Superintendent Sheffield shared a legislative update. President Erdkamp shared his thoughts on the recent newspaper articles that were published in the Nebraska Signal. The writer had not attended any of the meetings. He also wanted to publicly share his support for Superintendent Sheffield and all of the E-M faculty and staff. He asked if anyone else on the board had anything to add and no other comments were made.
