Exeter-Milligan Public School Budget Hearing Levy Request Hearing Regular Monthly Meeting Exeter Site Community Classroom Wednesday, September 13, 2023 BUDGET HEARING President Erdkamp declared the Budget Hearing open at 8:00 pm. Those present were A. Erdkamp, D. Kallhoff, K. Jansky, R. Johnson, E. Milton and P. Jurgensen as well as Superintendent Sheffield and Principal Kroll. There were twelve visitors present. The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted. Superintendent Sheffield explained the proposed budget. President Erdkamp invited those present to express their support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations regarding the 2023-24 proposed budget. President Erdkamp declared the Budget Hearing closed at 8:07 pm. LEVY REQUEST HEARING President Erdkamp declared the Levy Request Hearing open at 8:07 pm. Those present were A. Erdkamp, D. Kallhoff, K. Jansky, R. Johnson, E. Milton and P. Jurgensen as well as Superintendent Sheffield and Principal Kroll. There were twelve visitors present. The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted. Superintendent Sheffield shared the proposed levy requests. President Erdkamp invited those present to express their support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations regarding the 2023-24 proposed levy requests. President Erdkamp declared the Levy Request Hearing closed at 8:09 pm. REGULAR MEETING President Erdkamp declared the regular meeting open at 8:10 pm. Those present were A. Erdkamp, D. Kallhoff, K. Jansky, R. Johnson, E. Milton and P. Jurgensen as well as Superintendent Sheffield and Principal Kroll. There were twelve visitors present. The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted. Motion by P. Jurgensen and 2nd by K. Jansky to verify that the School Board of Exeter-Milligan Public School meeting was duly advertised, and all Board members were notified as to the time and place of meeting pursuant to Board policy and practice. Motion carried 6-0. President Erdkamp welcomed new board member Rachel Johnson. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by P. Jurgensen to approve the consensus agenda consisting of the Treasurer’s report, minutes of the regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 18, 2023, minutes of the special meeting on August 29, 2023, and September expenditures. Motion carried 6-0. Policies 2009-Meetings, 5028-Crisis Response, and 5058-Memorials were reviewed. Board members posed no questions. Public Comment - Two patrons addressed the board pertaining to the senior banners. They asked why the students could not have the Timberwolves logo on their banners. Some of the activities that could be placed on the banner are not NSAA sanctioned and not being cooped at this time with Friend. The consolidation timeline developed by the area committee was again shared with the board and those present. The area committee will meet with Friend’s committee on Wednesday, September 27. Discussion was held on the elementary/gym HVAC project. The proposal came in higher than the projected cost. Supt Sheffield worked with Facility Advocates to find areas where costs could be trimmed. The recommendation was to have the building and grounds committee meet with representatives from Facility Advocates to develop a plan that would meet the original needs of the project but help reduce the costs to get closer to the original estimate. Motion by E. Milton and 2nd by K. Jansky to adopt 2023-24 Budget of Expenditures as presented. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by E. Milton to approve the Property Tax resolution for Fillmore Co. School District 30-0001. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by E. Milton to approve Superintendent Sheffield as representative for all local, state, and federal programs. Motion carried 6-0. President Erdkamp addressed the senior banner issue from the public comment period. The consensus was this was not a board issue and for the administration to work on a resolution. The NASB State Conference is scheduled for November 15-17 in Omaha. Board members interested in attending are to contact Supt Sheffield. The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, October 10th at 8:00 pm in Milligan. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by K. Jansky to adjourn meeting at 9:00 pm. Motion Carried 6-0.
