The deadline to purchase Cardinal Weekend tickets is May 1. Tickets are available at the Cardinal Welcome Center , at 930 Main St. in Crete or by contacting Marilea Thiem at (402) 826-5588. Many community open houses are scheduled June 1, as well as an alumni golf tournament at College Heights Country Club.
The Pleasant Dale American Legion will host a breakfast at the Legion hall on Sunday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to noon. Sausage, french toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice will be served for a free-will donation. The auxiliary will also have a bake sale.
Class of 2004 will host this year's Friend High School class reunion weekend celebration. The festivities will kick off on May 24 and include individual class get-togethers, punch card stops, a big group gathering, a banquet with music bingo, tours of the school and a Memorial Day service. A Kentucky Derby fundraising luncheon will be held May 4 at 11 a.m. at the San Carlo Room in Friend. This is a joint fundraiser for the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store (HATS) and the Friend Historical Society. Attendees are encouraged to wear a hat/bonnet and attend to enjoy mint juleps, a Derby lunch, and style shop by Cumberlands Style Shop. Each will draw for a horse upon arrival. Those who have the horse name which wins the actual race will receive a prize. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction held throughout the event will benefit both organization's projects. Admission is $30.
The Apace Choir will perform their spring concert on April 24 at 1:30 p.m. The show will be at the Heckman Auditorium on the campus of Doane University and is free to the public.
The Crete girls' tennis team hosted Norris for a dual on April 22 and went 1-2 in doubles and 2-4 in singles. The Cardinals will host its meet at Doane on Friday, April 26, starting at 8 a.m.
