Ronald (Ron) Logan Sellens, age 71, of Benedict, passed away peacefully at home Saturday July, 9, 2022, surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born April 11, 1951, in Nevada, Missouri. As a young child, he moved with the family to Friend in 1963 and graduated from Friend High School in 1970. Ron was very proud to be an over-the-road professional semi-truck driver for 47 years and an avid mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Nebraska Football.
He is survived by the love of his life, best friend and caregiver Dorla Sellens of Benedict; daughter, Colleen (Brandon) Summers of Gering; step-son, Roger (Diana) Peterson of Papillion; daughter-in-law, Kristen Sellens of Lincoln; grandchildren, Hailey, Damien, Logan and Skylar Summers of Gering; grandson, Kaleb Sellens of Lincoln; sister, Shirley (Tom) Day of Marietta, Georgia; mother-in-law, Verna Leonard of York; brother-in-law, Robert (Diane) Leonard of Cullison, Kansas; sister-in-law, Verna Dee (Rick) Cook of Sutherlin, Oregon, and many, many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Rose and Paul Sellens; son, Preston Logan Sellens; step-daughter, Angela Peterson; father-in-law, Paul Leonard; and brother-in-law, Loren (Bud) Leonard.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 30, at the First United Methodist Church in York. Private family inurnment. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 29, at Metz Mortuary. Ron has been cremated. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for later designation.
