Helpful in a pinch

Goalie Camila Franco, a Crete first grader, creates some clearance between the ball and the goal with a forceful kick on March 17. Youth soccer games for the City of Crete kicked off on St. Patrick's Day. Fittingly, the first/second grade Dark Green team took on the Lime Green team. This age is the first year goal for defending in the youth programming.

Tree trimming tips

Although it may be common to associate spring and summer with yard work, March is the last month in which tree trimming is recommended. Not everyone follows proper tree trimming guidelines, and their trees may suffer because of it. An article in our upcoming Home and Acreage section will explain why this is and outline proper tree trimming practices.

Cardinals soar on the diamond

The Crete/Milford Cardinals baseball team flew into action as they kicked off week one of their baseball season with a Saturday tournament that showcased their talent and determination on the diamond. The baseball team proved formidable against Falls City, setting the tone for the rest of the tournament. They faced the Auburn Bulldogs in their second game of the day. Although the Bulldogs won their first game 15-0 they were no match for CM. CM beat Auburn 12-1.

Cardinals break 26 game losing streak, win first of season

After not winning a game in two seasons, the Crete girls’ soccer team overcame that hump and shutout Nebraska City 5-0 on March 14. Freshman Kimberli Magena led the Cardinals, scoring three goals.

Rasgorshek leads Cardinals at first meet of season

The Crete track team completed at its first meet of the season at the Doane class B indoor meet and Marin Rasgorshek led the way from the Cardinals, winning the shotput and placing fourth in the discus.
