Max Duane Kellough of Friend passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln at the age of 92. Max was born March 30, 1930, in Friend to Leonard J. Kellough and Edith L. (Sims) Kellough. To this union three children were born, Max, Rex and Janice.

Max graduated from Friend High School in 1947. In 1951, he graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Max was married June 10, 1951, to Roberta Grace Embree, and to this union, four children, Karen, Mark, Kirk and Kent were born.

Max entered the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was assigned to Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. He was then assigned to the USS LST 975, based in San Diego, and was deployed to the Arctic and Okinawa, Japan.

After completing his naval service in 1955, Max and Roberta moved back to Friend and began farming. Max started his cattle-feeding operation, Kellough Cattle Company by 1960.

Max served his community and profession well over the years as a member and holding board and officer positions of numerous organizations at the local, state and national levels.

Additionally, Max was a basketball referee for many years and also umpired for Legion and Little League baseball games.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Diamond, Omaha/Friend; son, Mark Kellough, Lincoln; son, Kirk Kellough, Scribner; son, Kent Kellough, San Diego, California; three grandchildren, Natalie and spouse Erik Duarte, Amy Kellough and Stacy Kellough and great-grandchild, Olivia Duarte, all of Lincoln; and Susie Kellough, Crete, mother of his grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, William Schrack; three nieces, six nephews, and a host of friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Edith Kellough; sister-in-law, Dorothy Schrack; brother, Rex; wife, Roberta (2013); sister, Janice; two nephews and one niece.

A funeral service was Sept. 30 at the Friend United Methodist Church. Burial was in Andrew Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Friend Ford Banka Post 183. Condolences may be sent to the family at lauberfh.com.
