EXETER-MILLIGAN PUBLIC SCHOOL REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2025 7:00 PM Exeter Site Community Classroom President Erdkamp declared the regular meeting open at 7:00 PM. Those present were A. Erdkamp, K. Jansky, E. Johnson, D. Kallhoff, and E. Milton as well as Superintendent Sheffield. There were two (2) visitors present. Board member R. Johnson was absent. The Nebraska Open Meetings Act was posted. Motion by E. Milton and 2nd by K. Jansky to verify that the School Board of Exeter-Milligan Public School meeting was duly advertised, and all Board members were notified as to the time and place of meeting pursuant to Board policy and practice. Motion carried 5-0. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by K. Jansky to maintain the slate of officers: President Adam Erdkamp, Vice President Eric Milton, Secretary Dan Kallhoff, and Treasurer Kendra Jansky. Motion carried 5-0. Board President Erdkamp welcomed new board member E. Johnson. Each board member completed the oath of office and the conflict of interest form. Committee assignments will stay the same unless someone expresses their intent to President Erdkamp. Those assignments will be finalized before the February meeting. Motion by E. Johnson and 2nd by D. Kallhoff to approve the consensus agenda consisting of the Treasurer’s report, the minutes of the regular monthly meeting on December 11, 2024, and the January expenditures. Motion carried 5-0. The board watched the video created by the journalism class, “Our School, Our Community, Building Tomorrow Together.” This video was created for the recent external visit. Superintendent Sheffield shared the presentation from the external team and reviewed the commendations and recommendations. After Friend’s visit next week, the admin team will build a new five-year improvement plan that will meet the needs of the EMF students and staff. No one shared during the public comment time. The tentative 25-26 school calendar was shared. Board members are encouraged to share their insight, thoughts, etc, with Superintendent Sheffield or Superintendent Anderson. The negotiations committee shared an update. The committee believes they are close to a settlement and hope to be finalized for a vote at the February meeting. The superintendent shared an update regarding the EMF Elementary project. The advertisement for bids has been published in the NE Signal and Friend Sentinel. A&D Technical (https://plans.adtechsupply.com) has posted this project on their plan website, and the construction plan services in Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island will post the project on their websites. Interested contractors will be able to find the project on those websites. Also, e-mail notices were sent to Cheever, Hampton, Genesis, BIC, and Kingery contractors in Lincoln, DR Anderson in Omaha, and BD Construction in Columbus/Kearney. A pre-bid conference will be held on January 15 with bid opening scheduled for January 30. The EMF area committee met on Monday, December 16. The main discussion point at the meeting was whether EMF would participate in the federal meal program. A representative from Nutrition Services met with the committee to answer questions about the program. More discussion is needed before a decision is made. Other items discussed by the committee were placed as action items for each board to help get the transition process rolling. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th. Motion by E. Milton and 2nd by K. Janksy to approve the separation incentive program applications for Lisa Ricenbaw and Lisa Soukup. Motion carried 5-0. There were no other teacher resignations. Motion by K. Jansky and 2nd by E. Johnson to approve the intent of the EMF school district to appoint Perry Law Firm as legal counsel to the EMF Board of Education. Motion carried 5-0 Motion by K. Jansky and 2nd by D. Kallhoff to approve the intent of the EMF school district to appoint Citizens State Bank of Friend as the official depository for the General Fund, Bond Fund, and Activities Fund. Motion carried 5-0. Motion by E. Milton and 2nd by E. Johnson to approve the intent of the EMF school district to appoint Generations Bank of Exeter as the official depository for the Depreciation Fund and Lunch Fund. Motion carried 5-0. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by E. Johnson to approve the intent of the EMF school district to appoint Farmers and Merchants Bank of Milligan as the official depository for the Building Fund. Motion carried 5-0. Motion by E. Johnson and 2nd by D. Kallhoff to approve the intent of the EMF school district to appoint both Generations Bank and Citizens State Bank as banks for the purpose of employee HSA accounts. Motion carried 5-0. Motion by E. Milton and 2nd by K. Jansky to approve the absence of board member R. Johnson. Motion carried 5-0. The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, February 12th at 7:00 PM in Milligan. Motion by D. Kallhoff and 2nd by E. Milton to adjourn the meeting at 7:47 PM. Motion Carried 5-0.
