Eugene “Gene” L. Riser

Eugene “Gene” Lyle Riser was born Oct. 23, 1953, in Friend to Francis and Betty (Johnson) Riser, the second of four children, and passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 66.

As a young boy, Gene attended Friend Public School and was a 1972 graduate of Friend High School. For a short period of time, he was enrolled at Lincoln School of Commerce, focusing on accounting. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and served overseas as a truck driver in Germany. Gene was honorably discharged in 1974 and returned to Nebraska, where he worked as a truck driver for various companies, retiring in 2020. Gene loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and reading Louis L’Amour western novels. Gene had a great sense of humor and had a playful nature to him.  

Survivors include his sons, Jeremy and Jamie Riser, both of Lincoln; sisters, Barbara Parker, Sharon Meyer, both of Lincoln; step-brothers, Rick and Shane Bottger, also both of Lincoln; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Stutzman; and a niece, Tanya Stutzman.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Cremation has occurred. No visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested in care of the family for future designation. Condolences may be left for the family at www.lauberfh.com.
