Dr. Timothy R. Lieske, 72, of Lincoln, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, surrounded by family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
He was born Feb. 12, 1952, to Gerald and Renee (Johnson) Lieske and grew up in Upland. He graduated from Minden High School in 1970, attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and earned his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency in Kalamazoo, Michigan, before serving in the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Staff in Altus, Oklahoma, from 1979-82. He later completed a Pulmonary Fellowship at the University of Missouri.
In 1984, Tim moved to Lincoln with his family and started Lincoln Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates, where he continued until his 2019 retirement. He also served in leadership positions at Lincoln General Hospital and Bryan Medical Center.
Tim loved family more than anything, including wife, Brenda, and children, Seth and Mindee. He later welcomed Brenda’s children Joey and Melissa as his own.
Tim shared his hobbies and interests with his family, especially his passion for baseball, which was sparked early in his life by his dad. He enjoyed watching Seth and Mindee play over the years and was often found attending, watching or listening to a game, any game. He lit up when he talked about his kids’ and grandkids’ games.
Being “Papa” was one of his greatest joys and he recently discussed with Brenda what the future might hold for each of their amazing grandchildren. He was beloved by all 11 and they hung on his every story, no matter how many times they had heard them.
He enjoyed cooking for others, golfing, skiing and spending time with family and friends, particularly his twin brother, Tom. He loved volunteering, including for the Lincoln Marathon, and as a medical guardian on six veterans’ honor flights. After retiring, he volunteered at the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum and helped with the family farm operations in Friend.
Tim and Brenda cherished their home, often relaxing on the deck and enjoying their "piece of paradise."
Survivors include his wife, Brenda; children, Seth (Jillion), Mindee (Nate), Joey (Jaime), and Melissa (Adam); grandchildren, Parker, Rylee, Jackson, Reed, Elinor, Kallie, Kolton, Kyson, Hadley, Briggston and Lennan; brother, Tom (Mary) Lieske; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be Friday, Oct. 25, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Interment will be at a future date at Andrews Cemetery in Friend. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bryan Health Foundation (Lieske Family Fund), St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or to the family to distribute to several volunteer organizations Tim valued. Arrangements by Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln.
