Wilber Czech Days attendees will have the chance to pick up a rope and pull a tractor at the 18th annual Bohemian Tractor Pull on August 3. Pick up a copy of the Czech Days magazine on July 31 to learn the ins and outs of the event and get tractor pulling tips from a seasoned participant.
The Crete Post 147 juniors defeated Waverly 5-2 in the Class B Area 1 final yesterday to advance to the state tournament. Crete scored all five of its runs in the third inning. Nick Wendt was 2-2 and Ethan Placzek drove in two runs. The state tournament starts July 20 at Hartington.
Free online and in-person citizenship classes are available in Crete at Union Bank & Trust. New students are accepted for the current program until July 21. Another session will begin in October. The Wilber Czech Festival Talent Contest, under the directions of chairpersons Judy Vrbka and Olivia McBeth, will be at the Outdoor Theatre south of the Wilber Swimming Pool on Saturday Aug. 3, at 3:30 p.m.
There are three age groups – 11 and under, 12-17 and 18 and over. Each entry is limited to three minutes. Call or email Judy Vrbka as soon as possible at (402) 821-7506 or email judy.vrbka@gmail.com. Include your name, address, phone number, age, talent and title of the selection to be performed.
The Wilber Jr. Czech Dancers will not practice Monday July 22.
The group will at that time entertain in Crete at Tabitha and the Garden long term facilities. Dancers should be at Tabitha, 1800 East 13th, in full Czech costume by 12:30 p.m. And start dancing at 12:45 p.m.
The group will then go to the Garden, 1405 Hickory Ave., where they will dance at 1:30 p.m. This is a good dress rehearsal as the dancers prepare for activities associated with the 63rd annual Wilber Czech Festival.
Caroline Mae Eigsti of Friend went to her heavenly home July 9, 2024, at Tabitha the Gardens in Crete. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at the Friend Christian Assembly Church with a graveside service at the Andrew Cemetery, Friend.
