Warren Lesley Weber was born Dec. 29, 1930, south of Friend, the youngest of two children born to George C and Hilma (Carlson) Weber, and passed away Wednesday Aug. 17, 2022, at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth at the age of 91.

As a young boy, he attended country school district 52, southwest of Friend, and during his eighth-grade year, he was the only student, so he went to the teacher’s house for lessons. Warren graduated from Friend Public School with the Class of 1948 and furthered his education by attending the University of Nebraska on the East Campus.

In 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Roush and to this union, five children, Les, Douglas, Marcia, Debra and Ken were born. He was blessed with a second marriage in 1981 to Joni M. Dutton.

Warren farmed until his retirement in 1996. He also helped to run the Chevrolet/Allis Chalmers garage in Friend during the winter months.

Warren joined the Friend Methodist Church in 1941 and sang in the choir. Church was always a very important part of his life, and he served as the leader for several major improvement projects. He served his church as a trustee, a lay leader and as a member of the board. Warren also was a 4-H leader and Cub Scout leader.

He was a member and Past Master of the Friend Grange 390. Warren served on the community service committee, whose performance earned the National Community Service Award twice, which provided the Grange with the funds to build its new building. When he was the Master of the Grange, there were 145 members. Warren was an active member of several Masonic organizations, and in 2002, he received the Masonic Individual Achievement Award from the Nebraska Grand Lodge and in 2016, he received his 60-year pin. He has served as Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, as Past Master of the Friend Masonic Lodge 73 AF&AM, where he currently holds the Jordan Medal, Scottish Rite 32nd KKCH and 33rd Honorary Degree. He is a member of the Sesostris Shrine and Shrine Chanters. He has sponsored several children to the Shrine Children’s Hospital.

Warren also served the community of Friend as a member of the Jaycees and earned the Young Farmer of the Year Award. He was a member of the Friend School Board and served as president. When Les was in high school, they hosted a AFS Foreign Exchange Student from Costa Rica. He also served as an officer of the Nebraska State Soybean Association. For a few years, he and Joni made their home in Lincoln and was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church and is currently a member of the Friend United Methodist Church.

In his spare time, Warren enjoyed fishing and camping. Work was always his hobby. He also enjoyed spectator sports.

Warren is survived by his children and spouses, Les and Nancy Weber, Marcia Gavin and Ken Weber, all of Friend, and Debra and Dean McCarville, Huxley, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends and Joni’s family. Warren was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Lou; his son, Douglas Kent; an infant sister; and his second wife, Joni.

The funeral service was Aug. 22 at the Friend United Methodist Church with internment at Andrew Cemetery in Friend.
