Martin "George" Dine, born Aug. 23, 1949, died at his home near Crete with his wife, Sandy, by his side after a short battle with lung cancer on Nov. 3, 2020. He was born to Rupert and Mary (Toomey) Dine and the family resided in Friend. He attended Friend Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1967. 

George held many diverse occupations and was a dedicated employee of the Crete Mills for 38 years, retiring at age 62. In 1997, he purchased the Broken Spoke Saloon in Friend and was the owner for three years. 

George loved fishing, boating, partying and just having a good time. He was an avid gardener and gave away his excess bounties along with dehydrated apples, black walnuts (that he cracked and shelled) and many, many pounds of asparagus. He was known by many and will be deeply missed. 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dine; sister, Rose Rhoades; father, Rupert Dine; and sister, Sharon Cerveny. 

His surviors include his wife of 23 years, Sandy; brother, John Dine and wife Betty of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Kay and husband Russ Egger of Martell, Teresa and husband Doug Novak of Crete, Cindy and husband Dave Plouzek of Wilber; and brother-in-law, Allan and wife Samantha Daugherty of Aurburn; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

He was cremated at Lincoln Memorial and at this time, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
