Longhorns win two medals at state track

Five athletes. Two medals. One good state track meet.

Dorchester sophomore Baylor Behrens and freshman Bailey Theis brought home medals from the 2023 state track meet. Behrens finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.73 seconds, and Theis was eighth in the shot put at 36-11.75.

“Both of these girls had their minds set from the beginning of the year that they were going to medal at state. Both of them made their goals a reality on Saturday, memories that they will never forget,” Coach Brian Rut said.

The Longhorns had three athletes compete who did not place in their events. Amber Kotas was part of the shot put and finished at 35-1.5. Kayli Carey finished her 100-meter dash prelim in 13.59 seconds. Chase Tachovsky ran the 200 in 23.49 seconds and the 400 in 53.22 seconds.

“Experiencing the state track meet for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, but I think all of our athletes came out and performed well on the big stage.  I know that all of our kids had a great experience, and they are hungry to get back there next year,” Rut said. “I’m really proud of our athletes that made it to state this season.”
