New childcare center opening Monday in Crete

Kathy's Cardinal Kids Learning Center is preparing for its grand opening. Owner Kathy Garland said she wanted to open a childcare facility because she knows parents in the area have been struggling to find childcare. Various local daycares have closed over the past several years, and she and director Ana Cortez Flores want to provide a quality, educational experience for children. Central Valley Ag photo contest open until July 10

Registration is now open for the Crete Lions Club's 25th annual fundraising golf tournament.
The July 13 tournament at College Heights Country Club will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used to support the Lions Club causes. Lions Club is a service organization dedicated to global causes beginning at home in their community. Globally there are 1.4 million members taking on some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. Causes include supporting youth to become leaders, vision and prevention of avoidable blindness, improving food security and more.
Lions Club is a 501c(3). Registration is required with an entry fee of $360 for each team of four. For an entry form contact Bob Swan at rkwswam@gmail.com or call (402) 580-3920.

SUNDAY - Breakfast served June 23 at Pleasant Dale legion

The Pleasant Dale American Legion breakfast will be Sunday, June 23, at the legion hall from 8 a.m. to noon. Sausage, French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice will be available for a free-will donation.

Talent competition at Saline County Fair

The Crete Lions Club and Saline County Fair will be hosting an all talent competition on July 17 at Tuxedo Park in Crete. To register for the competition contact Janette Drohman at (402) 429-0642.

Post 147 juniors walk-off Post 8

A double by Ethan Placzek in the bottom of the seventh drove in the winning run for the Crete Post 147 juniors June 20. Crete defeated Nebraska City 6-5. Placzek finished the game 2-4 with the one RBI. Triston Lenhoff went 3-4 with a double and a triple and drove in two.

Crete seniors win in extras

The Crete Post 147 seniors needed extra innings to beat Nebraska City June 20. Crete scored two in the bottom of the 10th for a 12-10 win. With one out, Triston Lenhoff walked and Everett Heath hit a home run to left to win. Heath was 2-6 with two RBIs for Crete. Lenhoff drove in three, as well, and Nick Wendt had two RBIs.
